2017 Marston Family Vineyard Petite Sirah 750ml
The 2017 vintage marks the return to our signature heritage varietal and our fourth release under the MFV label since 1992.
2017 Marston Family Vineyard Petite Sirah:
Our fourth vintage of Petite Sirah after a 20-year hiatus matures from a small 3-acre plot in Calistoga. This wine captures everything we love about this varietal – power, finesse and character. Youthful and exuberant, this pure Petite Sirah captures the depth of the varietal with great sophistication.
The 2017 growing season began with welcomed rainfall that refilled reservoirs and replenished soils, causing an end to the drought that had persisted throughout the Napa Valley for years. Favorable Spring conditions lead to healthy cluster development, complemented by warm afternoons and cool evenings throughout the early summer months. The modest crop handled the consistent weather patterns beautifully, including a significant heat wave over Labor Day weekend, achieving optimal ripeness and a late September harvest.
In the vineyard, the 2017 vintage maintained incredible consistency and uniformity within the vineyard block, and the healthy canopies provided ample protection and dappled sunlight to allow for gradual development. A heavier crop meant the need to balance the vines was necessary, which also required a few late-season adjustments. Flavor and phenological development were in lockstep, which allowed for ideal harvest conditions.

Winemaker Tasting Notes:
“An intense bouquet of wild blackberries, clematis flower and a hint of clove leads into a layered mouth of fresh blackberries, black plum, cassis and boysenberry. Deep purple in color and full bodied with a silky mouthfeel, the richness combines effortlessly with the fine tannins and minerality for a long finish.” - Marbue Marke, March 2020
